Zombies and Zombie Dust

Recently I picked up a copy of The Last of Us, a video game set in the post-apocalyptic world that seems to be a mixture of The Walking Dead and Cormac McCarthy’s The Road.

I haven’t gotten terribly far in the game yet, but on firing it up… it felt appropriate to crack open a bottle of Zombie Dust beer.

Part of me is thinking that this game might actually be something that Liz would enjoy “watching” as I play. She’s not big into video games, but when I played Uncharted 2 a few years ago… she got pretty mesmerized, and insisted on me only playing the game while she was around. Though there were a lot of action sequences in that game, there was a good deal of story/narrative as well – and it was one of the more cinematic games I’ve ever played.

“The Last of Us” is created by Naughty Dog, the same company that made Uncharted – so I’m hoping it’s something that Liz might enjoy as well. It’s been difficult for her these past few days, and watching movies has helped take her mind off of things… but I’m thinking an immersive video game might be a nice change from movies.

Though she doesn’t care for horror movies at all, Liz is pretty ok with vampires and zombies. And she’s the one that started me reading The Walking Dead, which is a pretty brutal ride if you’re not familiar with the comic/show.

We’ve only just started off the game, but the intro has been pretty spectacular. Much like how Uncharted 2 and 3 begin, it starts off more like a movie trailer than a video game.

// Note to Chris: Remember that Zombie Dust you brought over, and left at my house? I owe you some more beer.

  2. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this game. I’ve been on the fence, even though all of the reviews in gamegeek world are unanimously perfect.

Unrelated, i still haven’t beaten Ni No Kuni. I am nearly there – i think the next boss is the witch, but i’ve just lost steam. I think i’ve played that game for something like 60+ hours.
