An Outing to Peoria

Liz and I ended up having a last-minute, unexpected trek out to Peoria, IL. It was a bit of a trek, but we decided we wanted to take the time and risk to go and look over a few items she spotted at Peoria Architectural Salvage.

We didn’t end up going with the things we were originally after, but lucked out on finding some original tiles that match what was on the dining room fireplace.

Below, a few random photos from the day.

Among the kitchen sinks, this smallest, tiniest toilet ever.

At a nearby vintage shop: a bear that looks like he’s been here since New Year’s Eve.

Patrick was a saint, I ain’t.

A fascinating board game that looks oddly comical and oddly sinister, in equal measure. I have no idea what the actual tone of this game should be. The kids are realistic looking, the witches are cartoony, but the skull looks pretty legit. Should I be tickled or terrified? I have no idea.

This ranks up there with my favorite salvage find: Scrimshaw.

Along the same sinister theme… this oddly threatening Smurf book.

For a children’s show from the 1980’s, these Smurfs do have quite a bit of societal turmoil. Gnap! Gnap!
