Shower Demo, Day 2

Demo work, continued. With the walls cleared off, the focus today was getting the floor and curb removed. Which ended up being just as much work.

Felt weird to have a broom in the shower.

Walls still a bit fuzzy from the removed insulation.

A solid base, around the perimeter of the shower.

Demo going… slowly.

I’m not sure what this material was. Stronger than regular mortar, but maybe a little shy of concrete.

Inside the curb was a solid piece of wood. That had actually wicked up a lot of moisture, and more or less crumbled to the touch.

Removing the tile flooring. Deeper than I expected.

It’s like a sandbox in here.

Large chunks. Happy to have them because it’s less to haul out, but these pieces were just as heavy as their wall counterparts.

So messy.

Cleaning up a bit.

Most of the debris removed. You can see where some of the water had been leaking onto the subfloor.

Another view of the shower, mostly cleared up.

NOW the bag is full.

Cleaned up the walls a bit more. Interestingly, there’s a layer of styrofoam in each of the joists. Wasn’t expecting that.

Cleaning up the corners some.

And also tried cleaning up the joists a bit more.
