Shower Demo, Day 1

Another big task: demo-ing out the shower, which had some damage/leaking around the base. Part of the work was to open things up, to see how much water damage had occurred… the other part was to just clear out the entire shower itself, to make way for a fresh bit of tile.

Doors removed.

Temporarily relocated.

Hanging out in the shower.

Demo begins. This stuff is heavy – and the tile is very sharp. I was able to peel it off in sections, but each piece had some significant heft. There was a lot of huffing and puffing, as I hauled each of these large pieces down a flight of stairs, across the front yard, and up the driveway to the Bagster.

Tools at the ready.

Tile removed, with the insulation exposed.

Shower hardware removed, and a last run of tile left.

Final tile removed.

Tried to keep the drywall as clean and undamaged as I could, all in all.

As if this thing wasn’t heavy to begin with, a lot of shower tile on top of the deck boards.

So heavy. My arms ache just looking at this photo again.

While I was working, I got some photos from Liz – who was having a sisters weekend with Tricia and Katy, on a trip to the Grand Canyon. Give my fear of heights and my reaction the last time I was there… I think I was still happier working in the bathroom.
