Baby Food Bunny Bonding

It’s not quite a “last resort,” but it’s close. During our bonding session tonight with Hugo and Cloudy, we decided to bring in some baby food – as a way to entice some grooming.

When one bunny grooms another, it’s a positive sign. And there’s this whole power dynamic to it all, in terms of who is in charge (the one being groomed).

But for us, we’re wanting to encourage this grooming along. Hugo did groom Cloudy a while back, but it’s been a while now. And so far, Cloudy hasn’t willingly groomed Hugo back.

A dollop of baby food, to encourage Cloudy.

A bit on Cloudy’s head, to encourage Hugo.

So the outcome: a little 50/50. Cloudy really likes the baby food, and went to town on Hugo’s head. Hugo was more reserved, and wasn’t tempted. So it was mostly Cloudy grooming Hugo.

There were a few moments of aggression, which was unfortunate. When things settled for a bit… Cloudy started to bite/nip, and we had to break things up. So while we had some positive moments, we had some negative ones as well. Overall, I think the night could be considered a draw – neither positive nor negative. Not bad, but not good either.

Both bunnies have little orange mohawk spots now. While this isn’t an ideal approach, it’s hopefully getting us a little closer. We’ll be doing more of this, in the upcoming bonding sessions.
