Hazel: First Blood
We’ve had a lot of bonding sessions with Hazel and Hugo, in the hopes that we can capitalize on the positive interactions they had during their speed dating session at Red Door Animal Shelter.
I’ve been doing a few more of these sessions, as we’ve had a concern that perhaps Hugo has some jealousy issues, when Liz is involved.
For my part, the sessions have been ok. There’s a lot of high energy at the start, and Liz’s strategy has been to wear both of them out – to get them super calm before allowing things to happen.

I… should have waited longer.
It felt like things were ok, and I allowed the bunnies to get close – but it was too early. Hazel in particular has come out of her shell, and has gotten a little… feisty? Sassy? She’s a lot more opinionated, it seems.
Well, there was a bit of a scuffle and I tried to insert myself to break things up. My hand caught a bite that was intended for Hugo, so this injury came from Hazel.
This kind of thing is precisely why a splatter screen is used (because despite how cute they look, bunnies can cause some serious damage if they really get into it).
Here’s hoping that her causing me to bleed was just an accident. and there are no unexpected side-effects. I’m thinking now about Bunnicula, and realizing this is the kind of thing that origin stories are made of.
