A New Bunny, and the Hopes of a Foster Fail
Our drywallers needed to stay late today, so I ended up remaining at home while Liz took Hugo back to Red Door for another round of speed dates.
The goal was to see how things went with Kavorka, and maybe Salt. Hugo was pretty stressed out on his second meeting with them, so we were curious to see how things would go this time around.
A bit after 6PM, I got curious and texted Liz on how things were progressing. And got this in response:

She’s the one? A complete surprise!
It turns out, they got some bunnies that had just gotten to the shelter. And this bunny (Leslie) seemed a contender. According to Liz, she groomed Hugo three times, and was immediately jumping into the litter box just to be with him.
I was thinking we were going to confirm Kavorka or Salt, but it turns out a totally different bun is the one. Who knew? It seems that Leslie’s affection for Hugo was so strong, there was no question she was coming home with us.
Rather than going for an outright adoption, we’re being moe cautious. And instead, we’re signing up to foster Leslie. Which means we’ll take her home, and she’ll live with us… but as fosters, the idea is that we’re temporarily providing care and lodging, with the idea that someone else will adopt her.
This strategy is something done when bonding rabbits. We’re committing, but not quite committing. The goal is to foster, but more accurately we are wanting to be foster fails.
A “Foster Fail” is a fun term, used to describe a household that takes on the fostering of a pet… and then just becomes attached, and ends up adopting. So I guess that’s our goal: failure.

Hugo, a little unsettled by this new bunny all up in his business. But Leslie seems undaunted, and just all about chillaxing.

Leslie, in her own area.

A cute closeup.
Note: Leslie is her original name, but we’ve taken to calling her Hazel. Not sure if it’ll stick, but that’s the name that jumped out at us.
