Thomas Kuntz makes some pretty sweet automata, but the one that stands out for me is entitled Une Saison En Enfer. It features Paul Verlaine seated at a Parisian cafe, drinking absinthe and experiencing a series of ghostly encounters (one with the “Green Fairy,” naturally).
Dug North makes some seriously freaking amazing automata. The ones featured in this video are playful, beautiful, and incredibly complex.
Karakuri ningy? are mechanized puppets or automata, dating back to the 17th and 18th century.
