Whiskey Escape
One fun thing we did – we got to utilize not one, but two Christmas gifts we had received. One was a nice bottle of Macallan (Harmony Collection, Vibrant Oak), and the other was a “Whiskey Escape Room” game.

Really, really fun night chatting with everyone. It’s been a long while since I was in grad school, a long while since I’d been in the company of academics. It was fun to talk about books and politics, and all manner of current events with folks. Really great company, and a really great time.
Before our trek up to Whitehall, we learned that the cabin Mark and Anna have in Michigan is fairly close by. We talked a bit about meeting up, and today ended up being a good day for us to hang out. And to check out their cabin.
Unfortunately, Anna ended up being out of town for work. But we still arranged to meet up for a tour, a walk around the grounds, and an early dinner.
We were pretty busy all night, with a constant stream of kids. This was one of the few moments where I stopped to take out my camera, and record one of the interactions.
Not a lot of photos from tonight, as I’m still out of practice. But I wanted to at least record the evening, as we always like spending time with them. The conversation is always fun and relaxed, we’re always laid back… and despite how much time passes between our get-togethers, it always feels like we pick right back up where we left off.
That’s… a lot of bottles. In addition to offerings from Arran, tonight we were also able to try out several bottles from Lagg (a recent/new distillery from Arran, that was built on the south side of the Isle of Arran).
We had a delicious meal, and got to sample a lot of whiskies. Post dinner, we headed inside to hang out for a bit in their living room. Having a bit of a dessert, and catching up some more.
Earlier this week, we ran into our neighbors Mark and Anna (who live across the street from us). We got talking about whisky, and had an impromptu plan to get together to share some bottles with one another.
Worth noting: we talked to Mark and Anna prior to our trip to Scotland, and it was their recommendation for us to visit Bunnahabhain… which ended up being one of our favorite tastings from the entire trip.
