Friendship Litmus Test

Something happened today that jogged my memory. I recalled a thought that I had, a while back… that you define your friends based on trust: specifically, the ingestion of certain foodstuffs.

Imagine a complete stranger, walking up to you on the street. They had you a styrofoam cup filled with a strange-looking liquid. They tell you to drink, and that it’s good, and that you’ll like it.

Now imagine the same scenario, but someone you know… a friend hands it to you. They tell you to drink, and thatit’s good, and that you’ll like it.

About a week or two back, Justin was talking about his morning routine and how he makes smoothies with various herbal/natural enhancers. Emma made fun of him, describing his smoothies as something shy of a solid. But Justin gave me a vial of some kind of powdery substance – something he claimed helped his energy level, and really helped him get peppy in the mornings. The joke was that it was some sort of algae extract, but that was mainly because it’s green.

I don’t think it’s algae.

But to be honest, I have no real idea what in the hell it is. I still don’t know.

I tried it for the first time about a week ago, and it didn’t taste all that bad. Today, I added about two spoonfuls into some yogurt, and it was fine. I have yet to experience the "peppiness" that Justin claims, which is odd because I tend to be the highly suggestible type.

This morning made me think about friends, and about trust. I threw down a heaping gob of green powder, all because a friend of mine said I should do it.

It’s good to have friends you trust. :)
