So Full… So Very Full…

Went to Nola’s again. The last time I was here, I was also with Kent. But tonight, I met two other friends of his: Mike and Tanya. They were both quite cool folks – it took us a little while to get comfortable (a lot of job/career/what-do-you-do talk at the start). But by the end of dinner, things felt very natural and I enjoyed their company immensely. Mike had broken his wrist a little while ago, and when I asked him how he got a bit embarassed. Turns out he’s a furniture maker and a bartender (which I found to be a fascinating combination). One job focuses on providing stability and balance to the world, the other job focuses on taking away that stability and balance. Anyhow, one night he was up late drinking with friends/coworkers (5 AM I think he said), and tried to give his friend a Charley-Horse. Apparently, that’s when his wrist decided to break. :)

I was pretty impressed by that story, and told him that he, at the very least, intended to do something. At least he didn’t break his wrist reaching for the remote, or for a bag of chips (or something like that).

We ate a good deal of food. Four dozen oysters, I believe, along with about two orders of cornbread, two beers each, and some gumbo/bisque/salad to top it all off. On Monday’s, it’s 3 oysters for a $1, so we went a bit crazy. All told, I think our bill (for four people, and for the amount of food we consumed) was really rather reasonable.

Jebus, I may have to crawl into bed here and just call it a night. I’m still trying to finish The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, which I got as a gift from Justin for Christmas. It’s a pretty amazing book, and it’s unfortunate that I’ve been only reading it sporadically, at night. There was a good while where I was actually looking forward to bed, hitting the sack early so I could get an hour or so of reading time. I gotta get back on that schedule. Perhaps tonight is the night.

And hey, Dustin! My next book will be A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. Swear! Just as soon as I finish this one!
