Slacking

And… all I really missed out on was a full day of slacking around the apartment. I ended up making a chicken dish with the crock pot, which turned out pretty well. The chicken ended up being a bit dry, and could use some spicing up… but a good turnout for my first time trying to use meat of some kind. Putzed around on the computer, ate a late lunch/early dinner.

I ended up watching Donnie Darko and holy crap! I loved it! I wasn’t sure what to expect, although I’ve heard many people say good things about it on WH and twelvestone. I expected it to be some kind of horror movie (and it sort of was, a little bit). Very cool story, and this is definitely one I’m going to purchase on DVD. I even started to watch the whole movie again with the director’s commentary… I found it pretty fascinating.

Outside of the main plot, this movie gets the "feel" of adolescence spot on. As accurate, in my opinion, as Eugenides’ writing in The Virgin Suicides (note that I’m talking about the book, not the movie). This movie gets the right balance of awkwardness and wonder, in equal parts, at the same time.

After the movie, I discovered a nail that was balanced on its head, pointing straight up. It was on the floor, by the television, and probably fell when Mike was installing in some new fans. I guess it’s a good thing I don’t watch all that much TV!

After I found it, I started thinking how lucky I was, to not have stepped on that thing. And after watching Donnie Darko, I started to think of all the factors involved that allowed for my not stepping on the thing.

Man… I can’t say enough good things about this movie.

Sometime around 10:30, I fell asleep. I was trying to watch the movie again (with commentary), but ended up just falling asleep on the couch. Hence… my updating this entry a day late.
