Grumpy, rypunked, Portnoy: The Triumvirate Begins

I got a call this evening from Mr. Grumpy and rypunked. I gotta say, I’m not usually a phone person, but tonight’s call was a lot of fun. In the past, I’ve been the quiet one, the guy who just sort of listens. And tonight, I felt slightly more chatty. Which I think is a good thing.

I think this is why I’m verbose at times on Instant Messenger, and maybe not as much in person or on the phone. Through IM, you can take as much time as you want to contemplate discussion, and to formulate a reply. In person or over the phone… that "processing" time gets reduced greatly. It’s the reason why so many people (my age, anyways) use "like" and "uhm" as punctuation… it serves as an indicator to others that you are involved, but just thinking.

I guess some would say that, when talking, there shouldn’t be "processing." Just say what you feel. But I’ve always been like this – the one who listens to everyone else, and then chimes in based on what he’s heard. \

I digress.

Tonight’s talk was fun. Even when we disagreed on things, I got the sense that we all thought about stuff in a similar manner. This might have been due to the way that we disagreed, or the way we joked about things.
