Record Shopping with Justin

Justin was doing some research online, and came across a place in the suburbs that carried several titles he was interested in. He mentioned Full Cyrkle Records and CD’s to me, and having a bit of nostalgia for the burbs… we decided on a road trip up there.

All told, it was roughly an hour plus to get there, with minimal traffic. Not much else around, and a rather modest storefront from the looks of things.

Interior shot – tons of records..

The prices here were nothing short of amazing. Most albums were $2, with the near mint ones weighing in at $4 and up (depending on rarity). Really just some incredible deals.

Sidenote: I tried calling my friend Ron a few times, while we were up here. Unfortunately, we never got a hold of one another.

Ron is an old friend of mine, and a coworker from one of my first jobs ever. Back when I didn’t know crap about Flash, he helped mentor me and helped me develop a lot of the approaches/processes I employ today. I need to take anothe road trip out to the burbs to see his wife (Melissa), his kid, his new house, and just hang out and get caught up.

I meant to ask about the iPod rule, but never did find out what the deal was.

Ahh, memories.

*wipes tear*

The owner is totally hardcore.

:)

Middle view of the room. All told, it’s not that big a space. But tons of stuff packed in the crates.

Singles, lined up all along the wall.

Bobble bobble.

This has been here a while.

Hot CDs!

Labyrinth!

Great sign.

Justin, going over his two page, hand-written list of things he’s looking for.

The loot! At the end of things, I think Justin walked away with about 65 albums. I ended up grabbing a few from the discount bin (they were a dollar each). While I don’t really have a way to play these records, there’s a setup at work where I can rip the albums and turn them into .mp4 files.

Of interest, I got two Leon Redbone albums, which I’m really looking forward to hearing.

And this is Sean, who has been working at this place for an amazing amount of time. I think I heard him say something like he had started here, part-time, when he was 15? And just kept on and stayed on, ever since?

If memory serves, he’s got some kind of crazy record collection (somewhere in the neighborhood of 8,000 albums).
