Decompression

After work, Justin and I headed over to Danny’s for a quick post-work drink. We found out though, that the place doesn’t open until seven, so we headed around the corner to Coast for a bit of sushi and tea.

Ended up talking a lot with the bartender at Danny’s, mostly about computers and such, trying to troubleshoot his Mac.

When I mentioned that I was looking to buy a new computer, Justin and I got into this extended Mac vs. PC discussion, with him trying to convince me to go Apple. Nearly all of my friends are on Macs, and each one of them extolls the virtue of their machines.

Really, it wasn’t a Mac vs. PC debate – it was more about learning curves, comfort in routines, and the unknown. While I’m interested in Macs, it’s going to be extremely difficult for me to ditch an OS that I know and work quickly on, for one that I’m unfamiliar with. Sure I’d get used to it in time. But that huge jump is something I’m unwilling to do right now.

If I’ve got a hunk of money that will get me a new machine – it’s going to be a PC. It seems the only way I’d be tempted over to the Mac side of things is if I purchased a second machine, specifically for fiddling and experimenting. But that’s a luxury I’m not sure I’ll have anytime soon.

I took this shot (above) of the broken light switch because it seemed to suggest the passing of a lot of time (although I’m not sure how long Danny’s has been around). In retrospect, it’s sort of fitting, given the topic at hand.

Spotted this note on a store window, walking back home on Damen.

Hanging out with Justin was good tonight. Lots of geeking out, and lots of discussion on music to boot. Justin’s had a remarkably busy few weeks lately, and this has been the first time we’ve hung out in a really long while (which is fairly unusual, but speaks to his workload).

In addition to work stuff, he’s got lots of freelance work and DJ work to boot. So needless to say, he’s been burning the candle at both ends. Tonight though, it was good to see him laugh and joke around, and he looked more relaxed than I’ve seen in a while. More than anything else, I think it was our discussion on music – when he gets talking about music, you can see the effect it has, and how excited he gets.
