Liz’s Move
Right off the bat, things start off poorly. We show up at the truck rental place (Liz got a good deal on a truck through Royal, a friend from work). But when we’re there, we discover that they require proof of insurance before they’ll give us the truck. Liz’s card is in her car (which is in Frankfurt) and my insurance form doesn’t list my name.
Time is ticking, as we were to pick up the truck at 9 AM and be back at the apartment at 10AM, where Ben and Chris would be waiting, to help us move.
After a lot of phone calling and re-arranging, we drive back to the apartment. I meet up with Chris, who’s agreed to sign for the truck and serve as driver. He and I head off to get the truck. Meanwhile, Liz meets up with Ben at the old apartment, and they’re joined shortly thereafter by Liz’s dad – who flew in for the day, just to help out.

After fighting through a fair amount of traffic (another Cubs game today), Chris and I get back with the truck. As it turns out, Liz, Ben and Liz’s dad have already laded up the pickup truck with a lot of the boxed fragile items. Awesome! We’re left with mostly the larger pieces – tables, desk, bed, etc.

Again – I didn’t take too many photos. Most of the time, I was either helping move or catching my breath.

All clear! With the exception of Baxter, most everything else has been packed up. Onwards to the unloading!

A quick shot of Ben and Chris, movers extraordinaire.
This weekend, Justin was also making his move as well. His lease came up and so he found a six-month lease right down the street, about a block over. Literally. It’s next door to Happy Village and about a block away from Liz’s new place.
The sucky thing about the timing – he and I were going to tap the same people, to help out with the moving process. When he and I were talking through things, we sounded like baseball team owners, trying to see who we could swap and trade.
Justin had a few other folks to help him, so we decided that Ben and Chris would help Liz, if they were able. I’m glad we had the number we did, too. While we got through all of Liz’s stuff fairly quickly… having the extra bodies helped cut down on the overall move time.

All the boxes, moved over to the new place. Which, incidentally, has 23 steps on the stairway to the apartment. Just in case you were wondering.

View into the living room. The apartment is really spacious, despite how cramped it might look in this photo. Lots of boxes to sort, but a pretty big space for everything too.

Lisa, Liz’s roommate, set up her desk before the desk arrived. ![]()

Post-move beer. I can’t tell you how incredibly good this tasted.
After we were done, Ben went home to tend to Emmett (who was going to join us, but got sick prior to the move). Chris and I went to go return the truck, and Liz and her dad went to pick up some lunch.

Back at Liz’s old place, for a late lunch.
Mmmmmmm Potbelly’s. Once again, I can’t tell you how good this tasted.
Afterwards, Chris and I decided to head over to give Justin a hand with anything he had left to move. Liz stayed on to hang out with her dad some, and to paint Baxter’s cage before moving her over.
