Cereality
What’s crazy with this blog is that I can sometimes pinpoint the exact day that I learned of something, or heard about something. Case in point: I first heard about Cereality on August 17, 2005.
Cereality is a speciality shop where they serve… you guessed it, cereal. But the catch is that you get to create your own mix of cereal, along with your choice of toppings.
When I brought up my interest in going yesterday, Jennifer was the first one to yell out “Oh yeah! I want to go!” And this took EVERYONE by surprise, as Jennifer tends prefer lunch at her desk.
Well, when we found out Jennifer was down – it became a moral imperative. We had to go.

Waiting by the Brown Line.

After some looking around (I kept thinking it was on Wacker for some reason), we find the front door.

Interior shot. Check out the selections, along the left. Jane was wondering if they’d have Quisp and you know what? They did.
While there are a few different ways you can order, the one where you create your own is a little less opulent than I imagined. You get to mix two types of cereal, and get one topping. That runs you about $3.50 or so. There are other options (custom creations by the store, or a large box where you can mix multiple cereals), but most of us just went with the single serving option.

More cereal options. Around this time, one of the staffers told me that “No pictures” were allowed of the store itself. I could take photos of my friends, but they had a policy against just photographing the physical store.
It’s weird that they have this rule. My best guess as to why is that anyone can copy their “format,” as they don’t really have a way to copyright the mixing of foods. So anyone else can come along, steal the idea, and as long as they have a better name, logo, design, or whatever – they could just steal all the customers away.

Liz, putting on the finishing touches.

Ahh. Just like eating breakfast in the mornings. Except for the fact that we were eating out of little boxes. And the fact that it was in the afternoon. And the fact… ah, nevermind. You get the picture.

My creation: Fruit Pebbles + Cinnamon Toast Crunch + Bannanas + Soy Milk. I think this thing might have a wee bit of sugar in it.
Though I was tempted, I opted to *not* put in Pop Rocks. Though I was tempted.

Pretty fun meal, though it’s more a snack than anything else. It’s a fun trip for the novelty factor, but I don’t know how you could come here with any frequency. The sugar is out of control, and you don’t really get terribly filled up in the process.
Point in case – Chris and I, on our walk back to the office, stopped off for a quick hot dog.
But – still a fun place, and worth a visit for sure. If there’s a Cereality near you, I’d recommend swinging by.
And try the Pop Rocks.
