Filterless

I never imagined I’d be seeing the end of Filter. It’s a great spot, and it’s been a staple of Wicker Park for coming on 5 years now.

But, it turns out the onwer of the building has decided to lease the space to Bank of America instead.

Which is great, because it’s not like there are already two other banks on that trisection already. And a third farther down North Avenue.

Crazy news. And I can’t think of a more apt title for the Chicago Journal article.

Did some digging around, and found the entry where I stumbled across the first day Filter opened up.

End of an era. I can’t believe they’re actually getting kicked out. By a fucking bank.

  1. That sort of thing is going on everywhere–one of my favorite Seattle neighborhoods is getting destroyed much in the same way. All of the cool local businesses are being kicked out in favor of building condos, and the people selling those condos are advertising them as being part of a hip area, surrounded by local businesses. It kills me that the places they think are cool enough to use as part of their marketing scheme are the same places that are being destroyed to build these condos in the first place.
