Audioplayer Updates!
I’ve been listening to a few songs over and over lately. It should be no surprise to many of you that I tend to get obsessive about tracks, and if I find one I like… I’ll play it literally nonstop, into the ground.
Of late, three songs that have been going nonstop have been tunes I’ve gotten from Justin and Ben, who tend to be the ones who traverse a lot of musical genres… and come back with their bags full with things to share.
The first track is by A.C. Newman, whose voice I immediately recognized from The New Pornographers (who I also dig a great deal). While Miracle Drug is off of his solo album, it’s great to hear his voice… and the track has some great percussion, that almost makes it feel like it’s pulling at me somewhat. It’s weird, but the tempo and the guitars are what get me most; I’m reminded of The Strokes to some degree, particularly in regards to the tempo. Listening to this track it feels like I’m walking at a very brisk pace, just about to break out into a full-blown run. Just about to, but never quite.
Dr. Dog’s track Old News reminds me of the stuff I associate more with, say, the 50’s or 60’s. There’s a decidedly retro feel to this song. It’s a combination of the piano, the fuzzy bass, and the way the backup singers seemingly strut down a flight of stairs as they approach the chorus.
Both of these tracks come from the CD’s I got from Justin, on my birthday.
The final track is from Ben music blog, Cigit. On hearing Tokyo by The Books… my mind was immediately filled with images. This was such a delight to my ears, and I can’t stress this enough: listen to this song with some headphones on. Good headphones. When the bass kicks in, it’s… heavenly. You can’t really hear it on regular computer speakers. I can’t stress the headphones thing enough.
After hearing this track, I want to go to Japan with a video camera and create the video that I see when I close my eyes.
