This American Life – Live (in a Movie Theater)

Walked over to the nearby movie theater on Western to check out This American Life – Live! They were broadcasting from New York live, and theaters all across the US were picking up the signal and setting aside theater rooms for the event.

Liz and I met up with Chris and Leslie, and got some decent seats up top. Lots of folks there, and there was a good deal of shuffling around, last-minute, to try to make room for the latecomers.

The show itself was pretty great. Lots of previews of the TV show’s upcoming second season, lots of material that didn’t quite make the cut.

One of my favorite moments: a little girl who said she wanted to be President of the United States one day. Right after that declaration she nodded and, without breaking eye contact, said: “2032.”

I could go on and on about all the great things we saw, but I’d recommend that you check out the official site to get a better taste – particularly if you’re not familiar with the show at all.

It’s a crappy shot (dark theater and all), but I snapped this right near the end. I wanted to try to take a few more still shots, and even maybe video earlier during the broadcast… but didn’t want to risk getting caught and/or kicked out. Instead, I waited until the end and just grabbed this guy during the credits.

Finally, here’s a preview of their second season:
