Order, Chaos, and Order Restored
I have a brief history with these bricks. I first spotted them while walking ot work last week, positioned like they are in the above photo. At the time, I was thinking “Whoever placed those there is an optimist.”
They were balanced on their sides, as a kind of partial border around the tree. I wasn’t sure if they were meant to go in the ground, or if they were just here like a super makeshift fence.
A few days later, on walking past… I noticed several were knocked over. “Aha!” I thought to myself, “chaos wins, as it always and inevitably does!”
And then just yesterday, as I was walking home, I spotted the bricks again as they are in the photo (above): upright, and balanced on their sides.
In my mind, I’m imagining the forces of order and chaos having a mini turf war with these bricks. During the day, all manner of creatures work to topple these guys over: squirrels, dogs, pedestrians. And late in the evenings or early each morning, someone takes the time and care to set these bricks back into their original configuration.
It would seem that the battle between order and chaos, good and evil, is ever unfolding. Particularly on our commutes to and from work.
