Happy Feet
One of the many cool Christmas presents I got from Liz was this pair of knitted socks! I watched her make these steadily (and tried them on at various stages), and they fit great.
A side by side view.
These feel great when I slide them on, and are definitely much more comfortable than the run-of-the-mill socks I normally have. I think of these as my “house socks,” as I just wear them at home.
Liz was worried about them slipping or sliding down over time, but that hasn’t happened at all to me.
A detailed view of all the various stitches that take place.
Being married to a woman that makes her own clothes, I’ve come to understand a few things about the maker process. Particularly when it comes to knitted items – the time needed is far greater than what most people (non-knitters) think is required.
Some folks have no qualms about asking a knitter to “make something” for them, without truly understanding just how long it takes to create things from yarn.
Watching Liz (and Meg and Michelle) tackle complex things like sweaters and cardigans… I’ve learned just how long these things take, and just how much effort goes into them.
If you ever receive a custom, knitted item from someone… know that they must like you an awful, awful lot. Because it they likely spent an awful, awful long time making it for you!

Great socks! :-) Especially the increases towards the shaft are done beautifully. And they match your handmade sweater from Liz as well! :-)
