A Day Outside
Super busy morninng today. I got up early, and was out the door by 8AM. I headed over to Lowe’s and loaded up the car with 10 bags of mulch. After getting home and stacking them by the back of the house, Liz and I then went out and did our morning run.
Though we’ve been doing a modified Couch to 5K, we decided to up things a bit today… and ran four sets (3 minutes running, two minutes walking). It was a bit of a stretch, but didn’t feel too bad. It left us thinking we could take on a bit more, next week.
After breakfast, Liz and I went outside to work on the back and front yard. While I was mowing the backyard, Liz was prepping some of the plants she bought with her mom on Friday.
An assortment, waiting to go into the ground.
Detail view.
More plants. On the left, those will be the ones we’d be planting in front in a few hours time.
Pots at the ready. Liz was doing a lot of prep work, getting things ready for when Julie and Bob come over tomorrow.
After I was done with my chores, I moved to the front to tackle the weeds that have taken over the small space beween our driveway and our front sidewalk.
This was a really tedious and unpleasant task.
Thankfully, Liz ended up helping me out near the end – and we got everything cleared out.
A few stepping stones back in place.
We put in two different types of ground cover as a start. We may get more, but the hope is that these will eventually spread out and take over this small area.
All told, it was a really long day. I had given myself a cutoff of 3PM, but yard work is really deceptive. I didn’t want to quit until I was completely done, so I kept at it – and we ended up working until about 5:30PM.
Yard work always somehow turns into a full day of yard work. It’s satisfying, but ends up being just… all-consuming.
