Blackout, Revisited

So, funny thing – we lost power today. Again. And the super funny thing? I heard a similar dull/bang sound as we were watering plants, just like yesterday.

But what was less funny is that this time around, the blackout lasted a lot longer. A lot longer.

The power went out around 5PM. Liz and I whiled away some time on the front steps, sipping on some wine. We reported the outage, and were receiving text alerts as to the status. We heard an estimated time for the fix would be 8PM.

When 8PM rolled around and then passed, we got another update: 2AM.

Yikes!

At that point, we had to figure out something for dinner. I decided to walk down to 53rd and pick something up from Nado’s. When I got home, I saw that Liz had set the table.

It wasn’t super bright, but enough to see by. What we really could have used was a couple of those head light things.

I tried connecting my laptop and iPad to any nearby Xfinity WiFi, but had no luck. The neighbors on the west side of the street all had power – it was just folks on our block, between Blackstone and Harper.

What I was able to do was pull up Netflix via my phone. Though we didn’t have our Internet at the house, we were able to use that to stream an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (we have an unlimited data plan).

After dinner, with the power still out – we decided to head to bed a little early, and watched another episode on my tiny screen. Hoping for the power to come back on, eventually.
