American Life in Poetry: Kwame Dawes

Started back in 2005 by US Poet Laureate Ted Kooser, American Life in Poetry is a weekly newsletter that showcases a single American poet/poem.
I’ve been a really big fan of Kooser’s work, and the poetry he selected each week felt like an extension of his sensibilities. I’ve always looked forward to those emails, and I found myself really trusting Kooser’s selections.
And now, the project is changing hands, complete with a new editor in Kwame Dawes, and a whole new look and website design. It will be interesting to see this new chapter of the project, after a decade and a half in Kooser’s hands.
Interesting side note: during my brief time at The Nerdery, I learned that the company was responsible for the creation and maintenance of the American Life in Poetry site (working through the Poetry Foundation).
I’m sad I never got a chance to do any work on it, during my time there. I got close, but not quite close enough. Almost worlds colliding, almost.
