Digging Under the Back Porch, Part 1

With the space underneath the back porch in a rough state… Liz and I had a decision to make. Either leave things as-is, or do a bit of work to dig out some room… for some exterior storage.

There’s a lot of gaps in the area under our back porch. And after some deliberation, we decided to dig things out more. And to carve out some more space.

Been a while, but we got another Bagster.

A lot of the concrete was in rough shape. I had a grinder, and tried to score smaller pieces to break off. But large chunks broke off fairly easily (though they were a bit challenging to maneuver).

Me, trying to delicately remove a big hunk of concrete without crushing my toes.

Big guy, relocated.

I was mostly digging, and Liz was mostly hauling. We took turns here and there, but I primarily stayed underground while she moved things to and fro.

A glimpse of the progress.

As the topmost layer, we threw out a lot of facade bricks (that we’ve taken off the side of the house). These were fairly thin, and were our choice for a final layer, adding to all the concrete and brick.

Full bag.

Each time I fill on of these things up, I feel like I push the limits a little more than the last time. We put in a fair amount of concrete and soil, but felt nice to have it all contained in one spot.
