Visiting Old Town

Continuing our tradition of having lazy mornings and going out for brunch, we stopped in at 3rd Coast Cafe.

We wandered around afterwards, and made our way to the House of Glunz.

Which, funny enough, was next to a place called the Rabbit Hole.

We showed up right when they opened, and got to browse around a bit. They had a decent scotch/whisky selection, and we spent some time looking over their bottles.

Of note – they had bottles that came from a Macduff cask. I really enjoyed the bottle I got from Strong Water, and made it a point to seek them out. I got a hold of their standard Deveron, and was really underwhelmed by it.

The owner talked to us a bit about their custom bottle, and went so far as to offer us a sample at the bar (next door). Which had an impressive looking collection of bottles, to boot. Definitely a place we need to come back to.

Spotted this safe, that gave an indication of just how long this place has been around.

Walking around a bit, random windows.

We were on Goethe, and spotted a building that we thought housed our wedding reception site. Turns out, we were close… but off by a few blocks.

Outside the site! We’d heard that the interior had been torn down, and the venue was no longer available. Which was sad to hear… but made is feel incredibly lucky, that we had our reception here. I wonder if we were one of the last folks to host an event here.

Side note: I feel incredibly fortunate that we got to visit the original Maxim’s, in Paris. Talk about surreal.

I tried my luck here, and went in to talk to the security guard to see if we could sneak in to take a look around. Unfortunately, he said the owner of the restaurant/space didn’t want people down there, and had to deny us entry.

I spotted some construction tools and whatnot, and got the sense the removal/renovation was still underway. Would have loved to have gotten down there for a quick peek.

Now that we’re talking about it… I should mention, I think we had a pretty swell wedding. I know I’m biased, but well… see for yourself.
