A Brief Tasting, Franklin Room

We missed the last SMWS tasting at the Franklin Room (which was on October 31). Which was unfortunate, because it was either whisky or Halloween… but Halloween ended up winning.

We had a bit of time tonight, and stopped off at the Franklin Room after an afternoon of errands. And decided to try to get a quick tasting in (showing up unannounced, we were able to get just an hour at the bar).

This latest tasting must have been really successful, because there were not many bottles left it seems. Despite us asking to try several bottles, a lot of the ones we were interested in seemed to not be available.

One really nice thing – the server comped us all the small tastes we had of Society bottles, due to them not having a lot of what we were interested in. Not required, but really generous of them (we made sure to leave an appropriate tip).

One big bottle that was new to us, and really stood out: Balvenie’s Second Red Rose, a 21 year that was really amazing to sample. I think these bottles are pretty up there, and what we were charged for a 1oz pour was entirely reasonable. Super glad we had a chance to sample this (definitely a Xmas gift item).
