Lost Kitten

As we were driving around tonight looking for a parking spot, Liz put her hand on my shoulder and said “What is that?”. There was a small shape in the road ahead, and at first I thought it might be a rat. But we both quickly realized it was a really small kitten.

Once it saw our lights, it bolted under some cars. Liz was adamant we stop and so we traded seats… and I went searching for the little guy.

I saw him briefly along he sidewalk, and the instant he saw me… he bolted under a nearby car.

Liz eventually parked our car, threw on the blinkers, and helped me in my search. We walked up and down the block several times, and heard a plaintive meowing a few times. We searched under several cars with the light from our phones, but no luck. I even stopped a couple walking by, and got them to help in the search for a few minutes.

We spent a good 20 minutes or so, searching. And we both heard faint meows from time to time. But couldn’t locate the kitten. We reluctantly walked back to the car, and went about finding a parking spot.

Walking home, we decided to take the long way back… going down the street where we had seen the kitten. We once again heard the meows – a bit fainter, sounding further away… and tried searching once more. But we had no luck.

As much as we tried, we never saw or found the little guy. And had to go home, and hope for the best.
