Kishi Bashi: Bright Whites

A song I’ve been playing a lot lately: Bright Whites by Kishi Bashi. It turned up in a recent playlist… but it turns out, this song has been around a while. Like, a very, very long while.

You and me at the edge of the world
With a pretty little smile for me to see
New bright whites and a cage full of ice
And a naked little canopy to feed my disease

I’m not clear what they lyrics actually mean. Though it’s nice to be able to see a translation of the Japanese in the song’s opening.

But this song overall is immensely sing-able. And just a lot of energy, and fun. It’s not what I usually gravitate towards, but I’ve been playing it a lot lately.

Interesting tidbit: I played this song for Liz, on a long drive home recently. And she immediately recognized it. And was singing along with it.

When I pressed her, she couldn’t recall where she had heard it before. But knew it was an “old” song, something she had heard along while ago. And something she knew well enough to sing to.

I need to listen to more of Kishi Bashi. I’m convinced I had more of his songs saved, but it feels ephemeral. This song in particular feels like a strong memory, but something I only recently remembered.
