Storm Damage, Aftermath

I walked out the door early this morning to run… and I was greeted with another surprise: two large trucks from the City, parked across the street. And they were in the process of removing the damaged tree entirely.
On my way back, I was hoping to catch a photo of how large these trucks were. As I got my phone out, the guy sitting in the bigger truck saw me… and slowly pulled away. So all I really got was this guy, stationary and holding the remnants of the tree.
Our block has a lot of old, large trees. And it’s part of what makes this area so lovely. But any tree felled is a loss (well, maybe not the Mulberry tree – but almost every other one I can think of).
I wonder how old that tree across the way was. Maybe 30, 40 years old? Am I undercounting here, and it’s more like 50+? And to think it just gets damaged, from a single night of strong winds… and then it’s gone.
There’s a bit more light now, on that side of the street. And a bit more light for our friends, Mark and Anna, who live across the street. But it comes at a cost.
