Shopping for Running Shoes
I have a hard time spending money. I think if something gets close to $50, a part of me starts to pull back wondering “Do I actually need this thing?”
I don’t spend much, on average. And it usually makes big ticket items more of a hand-wringer for me, because of the high cost.
I’ve been running for many months now, using shoes that were… if I’m being generous… at least 8 or 9 years old. They were running shoes, sure… but were about as flat (and as thick) as cardboard.
Both Tricia and Liz have been extolling the virtues of a good, solid, professional pair of running shoes. They kept insisting what a difference it would make, and deep down… I know they’re right. But I still balked.
A lot also had to do with this notion that I am, somehow, a runner. Because it doesn’t feel that way. I’m someone who is trying to run. But a runner?
I’m not like Tricia, I’m not like Liz. I’m not training for a marathon.

But today – we stopped in at a Dick Pond store, and began browsing around. And I tried on several pairs of incredibly comfortable shoes.
Ended up pulling the trigger, and got a fancy new pair of shoes. Pretty big step for me (see what I did there). Looking forward to the next several thousand.
