Spotted this a week or so ago, just outside of Spruce Park. I really wish I knew the backstory behind this, and what led someone to take the time to crave this word into the wet cement.
What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

Not really sure what to make of this. Part of me thinks that if it’s writing in a public area, it’s vandalism. And another part of me wonders if this is just someone trying to be helpful, a bit like jotting down the quadratic equation, just in case someone might need some reminding in the future.
Liz and I were out exploring houses in Irving Park over the weekend, and decided to walk around to get to know the area. There were several houses, like this one, that were just massive and looked very nice. I was focusing so much on the houses, I missed the graffiti on first glance.
It’s unfortunate that the alley near Milwaukee/Logan tends to get this kind of graffiti. But it’s often a little better than just indiscriminate tagging – as the graffiti almost feels like a conversation: sometimes an accusation, sometimes advice. Although who these words might be between, or who these words might be intended for is kind of a mystery.
Spotted this while walking through the alley behind my apartment. Seeing this makes me think that it’s an extension of a conversation between two other people. Advice or encouragement, perhaps.
Also? I love that whoever did this took the time to add serifs to the letters. This has “graphic designer” written all over it (see what I did there).
Looked up on my way to the Logan Blue Line stop yesterday, and spotted this large, blank space. To me, it was screaming for someone to show up and tag the thing.
