Exactitudes
Exactitudes is a very interesting series of images, gathered over the course of 13 years. From what I can gather this is a project by Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek, and the intent is to showcase “people’s attempts to distinguish themselves from others by assuming a group identity.” Thanks to Juliet for this link!
I guess I’m going to leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions as to the overall intent. Once I clicked, I got pretty lost in the wave of similarity, and couldn’t help cycling through multiple sets of images.
I’m drawn to this project because of the themes of repetition and variation. I find that sort of thing fascinating.
Oh, and as an aside – check out the project’s About page. If you have any idea what that last paragraph means, would you mind explaining it to me?
This, in my opinion, is a brilliant project. I’d much rather read the authors’ statements, rather than these blurb snippets from pretentious art reviewers. Dear Gil Blank: I’ve got your notions of authenticity and supreme self-awareness RIGHT HERE.
Linda and I just spent about fifteen minutes going through these. Fascinating. I think this book says just about all there needs to be said about human beings. I’d be perfectly content to leave it as the last statement of our civilization upon our extinction. I kept on looking for my type, and I know it exists, but we seem to have received some kind of amnesty from the photographers…
