These Shoes Were Made for Running

Bought a pair of running shoes the other day, and went out for a run spring jog I went outside with Liz.
We took it super easy, on my account, as I’m not a runner at all. My favorite line about running is from Real Genius, where when Val Kilmer is asked if he runs… he responds “Only when chased.”
So yeah, we took it super easy.
We went up and down each block, snaking our way around our apartment. We’d run a block, walk a block, run a block, etc. I was reminded how, when I tried running on my own maybe 5 years ago… I got totally winded and couldn’t even make it 2 blocks before stopping. Soon after that, I decided to quit smoking (and stayed quit ever since).
Oh, and I forgot to mention that Liz and I are back on South Beach again, so the exercise will be even better (coupled with an improved diet and more veggies).
My legs are sore from that one day, but I suspect I’ll get used to it after a week or so. I’m not the most athletic person in the world… and it’s frustrating to me that I can only go so far before getting winded. But I’m reminded that it’s a progressive thing, and improvement happens in increments. There’s some kind of “walking before you run” analogy that I was going to mention, but in the context of running… that just got confusing.
Uh, nevermind.
