Dan and Aaron, on the Ethics of Documentary

My friends Dan and Aaron are the co-curators of an exhibit currently at Intuit Gallery, entitled Almost There: A Portrait of Peter Anton.

Dan and Aaron have been working on this project for over four years, and in that time they’ve collected a great deal of video footage. They’re also working on a documentary focusing on Anton’s life… and are participating in a panel discussion tonight, regarding the Ethics of Documentary.

If you’ve seen some photos of how Anton lives, you’ll have a sense of how challenging it must have been to remain a neutral observer. I know that when I was looking at some of the photoraphs of Anton’s house, I felt like an intruder… like I was seeing something I shouldn’t see.

The panel talk happens tonight, 6PM, at Intuit Gallery – located at 756 North Milwaukee (a stone’s throw from the Chicago Blue Line stop). Admission is free and open to the public.

The discussion will be moderated by Steve James, best known as the director of Hoop Dreams. Should make for a very interesting discussion.

  2. I wish I had seen this earlier in the day. I would very much have liked to go. I also need to get my rear in gear and go see that exhibit. I’ve had the link bookmarked since you first posted about it ages ago!
