They’ve Gotten a Taste
Some time last week, Liz and I were downstairs watching TV and the bunnies were out and about, running around. During a lull in the show, we heard some noises directly above us. Which was weird, because the room directly about where we were was the main office room (which is currently still filled with boxes from our move).
Confused why there would be any noises from upstairs, Liz and I looked at one another. And then realized: the bunnies have gotten past the gate! I guess our gate has gotten a bit loose since we moved in, as a good push seemed to pop it out of its locked position.
Running to the stairs, we saw that the rabbits had pushed past the baby gate we had installed at the top of the landing. It then became a big chase, as both Phineas and Daisy were running around in different spots… and we had to try to herd them both back towards the gate, and back down the stairs.
The big danger in them being upstais is that there are lots of small holes everywhere. From the walls in the master bedroom, to the various gaps we have in the floors, to the fireplace in the main office… there are a lot of small places where a bunny could slip and fall (and in some places, fall a significant way).
While we got Phineas back to the stairs in short order, Daisy had disappeared into our maze of boxes. And it took a lot of wrangling to try to coax her out.

Took this over the weekend. Needless to say, after the “bunnygate” incident… the rabbits have gotten a taste of the upstairs. And they seem to want back up.
Liz and I are now super careful with the gate. I’ve tighted the attachments on either side, and we now double-check to ensure that it’s securely locked every time we walk downstairs.

Sitting on the carpet, hanging out with the buns. They seemed content to leave their jailbreaking escapades to join me for a bit, and seemed interested in my beer.
Boy, I hope this isn’t something else they develop a taste for…
