Amazon’s First Delivery by Drone
I first heard about Amazon’s proposed “delivery by drone” back in 2013 (almost exactly three years ago, actually). And now – they’ve just made their first delivery in the UK, starting off in a private trial.
What blows me away is that within 30 minutes of ordering, the thing arrives. And when I say “thing” I guess I’m referring to both the thing you ordered, and the drone itself.
And of course, the pessimist in me is now thinking it’s just a matter of time before thieves switch from stealing packages of porches… to shooting down drones from the sky. Because hey: free stuff in the air. And also: free drone!
And then with more people shooting at drones, the drones would then need to have their own countermeasures. And also have improved AI to determine customer from combatant. And well… that’s how you get Skynet.
