Easy Early Mornings

This thing happens to me: if I get particularly excited about a personal side project… I’ll invariably start waking up early, just to get a little bit of coding in before the start of my work day.

To me, waking up early like this is a sure sign I’m enjoying the side project, or particularly motivated by it.

But lately – it’s gotten… weird. It used to be a struggle to get up with my 5:30AM alarm, and I’d sometimes keep snoozing until 6AM. But that’s changed in the last week or so, where I’ve been setting my alarm for 5:15AM.

Lately, I’ve been waking up a few minutes before my alarm is to go off. I’ve been waking up pretty close to 5:00AM on the dot.

The mornings are fine. But when evening time rolls around, I get tired earlier. The train ride home usually gets me pretty drowsy. I’ll doze off after eating dinner. That kind of thing.

Today, I was hanging out with Bob for most of the day. Trained it down to Frankfort, and made a few stops. By the time we got to Hyde Park, around 5:30PM… my head was all fuzzy.

You know that feeling you get, when you stay up all night cramming for a final? And then when it’s 9AM, there’s a low-level buzzing in the back of your eyes? And it’s a little difficult to concentrate, because you feel slightly removed from what’s in front of you?

I had that feeling, tonight. Hard to shake off. It eventually faded, but it just made me pretty mentally useless for a while there.

Not sure what the deal is. Liz was sick all last week, and I’ve been waiting to catch the same thing. The sleeping schedule thing is the only other factor that’s a bit out of the ordinary.

It’s just an odd thing – I don’t feel that tired when I wake up. The tired feelings some to come much later on, towards the tail end of the day.

Guess I’ll be trying to sleep in a little more. Perhaps that will help.
