Dragonfly Swarm

Tonight, I happened to spot a cat just hanging out in our backyard. And on looking closer, I saw another cat in the distance, also hanging out. Curious, I opened the back door to see what was going on.
A few moments later, I saw what looked like a swarm of dragonflies zipping and flying around our backyard! I’m used to seeing them higher up in the sky in the early evening (along with several birds going after them)… but I’d never seen them this low to the ground before.
I’ve been working outside a lot lately, and noticed a decent number of crickets and bugs in the grass. I wonder if the dragonflies were going after mosquitos or if this was some mating thing. There were a TON of them!
The photos I took failed to capture what we saw. This video shows it a bit better:
The kicker for me: the two cats, hanging out in our backyard in what felt like Nature’s equivalent of Netflix. Just lazing around, watching TV. With us watching the cats, watching the dragonflies. It felt like Wild Kingdom back here.
