Hellbound

I started watching Hellbound on Netflix, and got pulled in by the very odd (and compelling) premise. I’ll try to summarize the plot, without giving anything away.

The quick version: people begin receiving visions (called “decrees”), where they are notified of the exact date and time of their death. Specifically, the date and time of their death, as they will be taken to hell.

When the time arrives, three beings appear and take/kill the individual, leaving behind a burned corpse (called a “demonstration”).

Here’s the trailer:

There are a lot of interesting character throughout this first season. Most notably, this member of a violent gang called the “Arrowhead,” who live-streams broadcasts on the Internet as the decrees and demonstrations begin occurring with greater regularity.

I got pulled in, mostly wondering to myself “What’s going to happen next.” Similar to Squid Game and Ozark, in that regard.

The series is directed by Yeon Sang-ho, best known perhaps for Train to Busan (a phenomenal zombie movie, if you haven’t seen it yet).
