Hallyway Soundproof Drywall, Continued

Big day for us today, continuing our work in the hallway with the (very heavy) soundproof drywall. We made good progress a few days ago, and were looking to continuing working with the material today. The big challenge: getting it lifted up another 4′.

We opted to set up the Bakers Scaffold in the hallway. A bit precarious, but better than the alternative (lifting up sheets while balanced between two ladders.)

The wheels were locked in place. But yeah, still a little dicey.

Liz, doing some measurements.

We got through the big pieces of soundproof drywall in the guest room, and moved on to the pieces we had stored in the office.

The boards are a full 10′ long, and super difficult to move around. So we opted to cut them down to more manageable sizes, and cut them as they were leaning against the wall. A small bit of plywood between the boards helped ensure I wasn’t bitiing into more than one board with the circular saw.

The drywall – glued and screwed! There are points where it’s not exact (due to the backerboards being a bit off)… but this is all going to be behind a layer of 3/8″ drywall, so no one will ever know.

Besides you, seeing these photos. Shhh…

We had some remaining 5/8″ plywood, which we cut and installed along the bathroom entrance. Liz was doing all the measuring and layout, while I just cut things down to size with the circular saw. And she ended up using the nailer to install each piece.

Plywood installed.

At this point, I was pretty worn out. It wasn’t a particularly long day, but I was really dragging. While it was a big day for us (soundproof drywall!), I felt like I was stumbling across the finish line… and didn’t have as much energy to celebrate, at the end of the day.

We really did get a lot done today, and the hallway continues to look more like an actual hallway/room. Slowly but surely.
