Mat Kearney: Wanted Man
After revisiting Mat Kearney recently, I remembered another song of his I really like: “Wanted Man.”
I’m not super sold on the lyrics all the way through, but the opening (and the main refrain) are just so damn catchy. And it helps that he’s a baritone, as this whole song is definitely, comfortably within my range.
I ain’t no Butch Cassidy or Sundance Kid
But I stole your heart with just one kiss
You were there by my side when the only reward
Was riding shotgun in that Honda Accord
But I stole your heart with just one kiss
You were there by my side when the only reward
Was riding shotgun in that Honda Accord
The lyrics get a little too whimsical for me, on the whole criminal front. But then I remind myself it’s a pop song, and the tune is just incredibly catchy. And before my English major snobbery can kick in, another version of me (dressed in a referee’s outfit) puts a hand on my shoulder, and tells me he’ll allow it.
