A Superfan Finds Eddie Van Halen’s Email Address

Blair R. Fischer, after realizing he had an old LexisNexis account from a prior job that never got deactivated… started randomly searching up rock stars. He found a few email addresses, and always sent out random messages on the off chance someone might reply.

As it turned out, Eddie Van Halen decided to write back.

I mean, who am I kidding? There’s no way the real Eddie Van Halen’s email address should be available for anyone to find in a public database — and it sure as shit shouldn’t be an America Online account.

In Inside a Superfan’s Secret Friendship With Eddie Van Halen, Blair recounts a multi-year correspondence with the famous guitarist from Van Halen, in the final years prior to his death.

There’s a ton of great stuff in this article, especially since Blair was a former music journalist. Beyond his professional credentials, Blair was also an incredibly huge fan – and reading over his article, it’s clear how much Van Halen’s music meant to him.

There’s a lot of gossip about the friction between all the various members of the band. And all of that is great and fun. But Blair’s genuine love of the music and admiration of (Eddie) Van Halen is what ultimately comes through. I love that AOL email accounts are still a thing.
