Ed Patrick: Shoulder

Another song that appeared in my “Liked Songs” playlist, that I have no memory of: Shoulder, by Ed Patrick.

I like Patrick’s voice, and it’s got this very subdued quality that I’m drawn to. I’m not sure what the name is for the effect that’s used on his voice, but I can tell something is there. And is very appropriate for his voice, and for the song.

When you’re sleeping on my shoulder
Dancing in a dream
It feels like getting older
With you is what I need

I’m quite fond of the lyrics, and I’m a few beats away from looking up the guitar tabs to try to play (and sing this song). It’s mostly in my range, save for that F# that lingers just above my baritone range. And continues to make me wish I was a tenor.

The main chorus, where the words are “When you’re sleeping on my shoulder” remind me a lot of Jeffrey Foucault, and his song “Cheap Suit”. Specifically, when he sings “When he sings he looks so far away.”

It’s not quite an exact match, but both songs remind me of one another.
