Twin Tacoma: Go Careful

I’ve apparently been on an Ed Patrick kick lately. A few songs appeared in my Spotify recommendations, and I really enjoyed them – and ended up adding the band (Twin Tacoma).

Well – turns out, the group is a collaborative project by Matthew Jarvis and Ed Patrick. Go figure.

Lately, I’ve been listening a lot to their song Go Careful:

There’s actually a lot of really interesting syncopation happening. I think that’s the right term here, syncopation? There’s an emphasis on some of the words/syllables that throw the normal tempo a bit off, but in a very pleasant way.

Stop taking polaroid pictures
Said the memories
Are good enough
You always knew the right words to say
When the hard times caught up

If you’re game, following along with the lyrics while the song is playing and you’ll see what I’m talking about. The song itself is very light and poppy, but syncopated stresses provide this slight imbalance that quickly rights itself. And that whole process is very pleasing to listen to.
