Asheville, Day 1: Travel, Zelda Dearest, Terra Nova Beer Company, Road Work
Today, we leave Georgia after temporarily residing here as part of the Ford family for about two months. We’re breaking up our drive, stopping for a few days in Asheville on our way back to Chicago.

On leaving, I snapped a quick photo of Sergio’s progress in the shower. Exciting to see, and a little sad we won’t be around to see the finished product.

Fast forward to Asheville, outside our hotel.

We have a few nights booked at Zelda Dearest, in the Sundrop suite.

On walking in, a lovely counter with a lot of drawers/space.

Spacious living room with some lovely views out to the street.

Shame the fireplace wasn’t functional. A few books in lieu of firewood.

This side room was quite nice, and had a lot of sun. But honestly, can’t really imagine using it all that much.

It’s a narrow bit of space, and while it really was quite lovely… just didn’t seem all that usable. We kept our luggage in here.

Bedroom.

I had forgotten there was a TV in the bedroom. What little time we watched television, we did so in the living room.

Shower.

We walked a half block to a nearby brewery, Terra Nova. We got a pizza to share, along with our beers (they had some good food there)… and were also treated to a free slice of deep dish they were experimenting with.
A thing we learned: there are a TON of breweries in Asheville. And many within walking distance of our hotel. Like… a lot of them. I wished I liked beer more, given how many places there seemed to be near us.

This rather large fella ambled by, in the distance. Both Liz and I saw him, but were unable to identify him. Definitely not a rat (unless he was the King of All Rats). Tail doesn’t seem long enough to be a beaver.
Capybara? Wombat? I wanted to ask some of the other patrons or the brewery staff, but couldn’t quite figure out how to do so without sounding like a crazy person.

Back at the hotel, there’s an adjoining building that serves as the official bar and area for breakfast: Wine and Roses. We went in to look around a bit.

It was empty when we arrived, and was mostly like this even when we came in for breakfast. I think we maybe saw one other person in here, the whole time during our stay.

Outside our room, a bit of road work.

It was a little loud, even inside our room. But these folks worked remarkably quickly. And besides, I’m always fascinated by this type of work.

We had some trouble finding food, and ended up just ordering some pickup from a local bar down the street. Got the chance to walk by the construction crew, packing up for the night.
Despite our fancy digs, we had a pretty modest dinner of burgers and some mac and cheese. And just watched Netflix. Long day of driving, and some relaxing days ahead before heading home.
// Edit: Almost forgot to mention. Yes, when we arrived and were making our way to the hotel, I did make it a point to throw on this song.
