Embedded, Wired Lights

On my way home, I looked over and spotted a dark blue light out of the corner of my eye. Looking a bit closer, I realized it was tucked into one of the steel beams supporting the El tracks (this was at Washington/Wabash).

At first, I thought it was one of those magnetic lights you can just stick against metal. But then I realized there were two lights, one pointing up and another pointing down.

Looking more, I realized bot lights were actually piped, with conduit lines leading to someplace official.

It’s been ages since I was downtown, and even longer since I was here at night. I’m not sure if these lights are meant to be decorative or utilitarian. Or perhaps both.
