Remembering Jesse Jackson

I learned on the radio this morning that Jesse Jackson passed away, today. On NPR, they were interviewing someone who was close to Jackson – Dr. Joseph Kyles (President of the Memphis Rainbow PUSH Coalition).
Kyle’s reflection stuck with me:
And so he’d also say to me: “You know, you have to pay attention to the people… who shower after work. There are those that shower before work, and there are those that shower after work. And *those* are the people that keep this country running.”
I was also reminded of the time that I got to meet Jackson in Hyde Park, back in 2019. It’s an interesting story, and technically… it’s Bob’s story. And I just had the incredible good fortune to be present, when it all unfolded.
Looking back, how fortunate we both were – what a confluence of random events, that facilitated a meeting between the two of them. I still feel awed by that encounter.
