No One Likes the Metra Quiet Car
I don’t see any sign. Do you see any sign? No? Well then how about you shut up then?

Spotted this on my way home from work. I imagine this guy stopping at the store, buying some bread and milk, and picking up some extra swords for the weekend.
To compound this notion that the tickets were mine: I couldn’t find a trash can anywhere nearby. With all these tickets clutched in my right hand, I was wandering around briefly looking for some place to throw them away. Finding none, I had to keep walking with them, a small bouquet of tickets in my fist. I really must have looked like a crazy person.
On my way in to work this morning, I spotted a fun thing. At Millennium Station near the Randolph/Michigan exit, I spotted two vendors who had set up shop. On the left are some guys selling fresh fruit; on the right, there’s a guy selling Krispy Kreme donuts.
Not sure why fog makes things so interesting. I guess a large part of it is that it prevents you from looking too far away, and forces you to focus on things that are closer and more immediate.
Originally, I thought these statements were all from the same person or voice. That they were part of a single narrative. But on re-reading things now, it seems that whoever created this talked to a lot of different people. Possibly asking the questions “Where are you going? Where are you coming from?”
I can’t really zoom in, or walk over and peer down… so I figured the best I could do is post a photo and ask around on the Internet. Maybe there’s machinery located underneath the ground here, to control switches and such?
It was funny to encounter this the very first time: it showed a certain kind of doggedness, a certain kind of determination. But I’ve seen these buckets multiple times since – and they seem to have been growing in number, the past few months.
From time to time, there are large freight trains that kind of just “sit” at the 53rd street Metra stop. I don’t know if they’re paused here momentarily, but on occasion they seem to be here for a few hours (in my mind, the driver’s thrown on some blinkers, and has stopped off for lunch somewhere nearby).
Both stations are about the same distance from our new house, and though we walked home from here yesterday… neither one of us realized how truly close we were to the Museum of Science and Industry!
